We have just heard that news outlets are today reporting on the discovery of documents that show that HealthEngine – the online booking platform that we use at North West Physiotherapy – has been providing patient information to third parties such as law firms and private health insurers.
The ABC article can be found here: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-06-25/healthengine-sharing-patients-information-with-lawyers/9894114
Even though HealthEngine has assured us that they do not provide any personal information to third parties without the express consent of the user, we know the process can sometimes be confusing, especially if it is your first time using the service.
To ensure that your information does not get shared with third parties, simply follow the steps below. Alternatively, we are still more than happy to take booking enquiries over the phone. So if you do not wish to use our online booking system at all, you can still talk to one of our friendly staff on 3198 4444 to arrange an appointment.
- During the booking process there is an opportunity to fill in the “reason for your visit”. This gives us a bit more information about your condition before you come in, but this is not something we necessarily need in advance. If you’d rather limit the amount of information you put in to the booking system, simply leave that blank.
- At the end of the booking process, there is a question that asks whether you have private health insurance and whether you want to join the HealthEngine mailing list. Neither of these questions need to be answered or selected for the process to continue, so if you don’t want any chance of HealthEngine using your information simply leave them blank and click “Book Appointment”.
Your privacy is very important to us, so we will continue to look in to whether HealthEngine protects your information in a way that we are happy with. In the meantime, if you follow the steps above we are confident that your data will not be used for anything other than making your appointment.
